This is probably an old video of the testing for the PWD (Pulse Wave Detonation) engine of the rumored "Aurora" spyplane - the replacement to the venerable SR-71. The fuel is said to be CH4 in a novel liquid or gel form at higher than cryo-temps.

The mysterious "donuts on a rope" contrails have been seen near Groom Lake and over the Pacific (and heard on occasion nearby) for at least ten years.

If there is anything exotic (supra-chemical) besides the shock wave interference pattern obvious in the exhaust plume, it probably relates to some kind of cavitation type, sonoluminescent enhancement, who knows?
