R. Mills would say, "It" is assorted potash-based chemicals, used in
fertilizer and glass making.
From antiquity, Russia had been the world's largest exporter and heavy
user of potash. Then Canada outpaced them. It would be interesting to
check downstream dam turbines on Canadian rivers, in areas of heavy
potash production.
