( See Tom Malloy's bites the dust post.)
In one case of accidental death by gunshot. One of the major players
was bird hunting in Idaho.Leaning his lever action rifle against the
post while slipping through the fence, he was killed when the gun
accidently discharged shooting him in the back three times. The death
was ruled accidental. After all, how else could you explain a lever
action rifle reloading and firing three times any other way but by
sheer accident.
Nobody seemed to question the three bullets story ,but everyone was
skeptical on why he would be using a deer rifle to hunt birds. This
resulted in a never ending speculation which is where all classic
tales wind up.
Richard's story reminds me of a Lyndon Johnson story. One of his
associates shot himself several times with bolt action rifle and then
asphyxiated himself by running a hose from the exhaust of his car into
the passenger compartment. This suicide, the coroner officially ruled it
as such, prevented the man's making any offending testimony against
Senator Johnson.
