The material is irrelevant. Just make sure it sits in a crucible, and the flame is pointing down. That way, as long as it has nowhere to go, it will just sit there getting hot under the collar. Unless of course it is consumed in the process, but then that's a problem you would otherwise have anyway. Sit a mirror at 45 deg. behind it, to throw the radiant heat forward.
