Thomas,

I am off this evening to Wiltshire for my yearly visit to stay with some
friends and I saw this about Banbury castle. Why does this seem to happen so
much in UK and then in Wiltshire?

My friend from Wiltshire has a lot of local knowledge and says 99% of the
circles are fakes. The locals are a little wary of outsiders and it always
feels that a conspiracy is going on with the locals to pull one over on the
city slickers - that 'look' they give to outsiders and conspiratorial way
they huddle in pubs and the ebb and flow of the hubbub of conversation as a
city party enters a pub. Farming is always in crisis in the UK and this
seems a good tourist industry.

Mind you there is the '1%', the highly intricate or 'impossible' ones, the
reports from pilots, 'Golden Balls hill', 'the Moonrakers', Avebury, Silbury
Hill and all the other stuff stretching back to time immemorial. I jokingly
said once that all the standing stone corridors around Avebury look like a
landing strip!
