fraction of the collapse energy *did* turn into heat, and that, in fact,
the amount of heat generated was large enough to melt a significant
amount of steel. But this is just a guess, and I would love to see some
calculations which either confirm or refute it."

I would too.

Most of us who want a valid scientific answer would gladly accept that one - or
any mundane solution which works out within the parameters, numbers and the
facts-- IF -- those figures add up to fit the circumstances.

But I think the problem with what you suggest would NOT be the amount of heat
per se -- which is surely adequate in terms of the BTUs ... but the lack of a
way to upshift the temperature to the required 2,100 degrees for the required
time.

Also there is the suggestion that the molten metal was aluminum, not steel -
but that one was addressed and found not possible. In fact there are samples of
it.

The big problem then - is not the "amount" of heat, but the amount of high
temperature heat.

Even jet fuel, or the diesel which was also in the WTC7 substation for the
gensets requires a high air compression ratio to get the flame temperature up,
which of course was absent.

Jet fuel when burned in air with no high compression only gets you to 1600
degrees - or something like that, which is far too low. May of these issues
have been addressed by the scientists who want real answers - in top labs - and
with real experiements - BUT NOT BY NIST. That is the problem.

At any rate - what you suggest in general, is precisely what they - NIST-
should have been doing with those millions wasted -- going to the lab, instead
of paying outside contractors to do computer simualtions which were * flawed *
before the first line of code was written.

IOW they wrote the contract for the computer simulation in such a way that a
valid scientific answer could NOT possibly be forthcoming under the terms of
the contract.

See the video for the details of how that bit of shenannigans was pulled off.
Pure politics NOT science.
