I believe supportable facts are that (1) our relations with Russia have been going downhill since well before the Georgia attack and (2) Russian physicists were denied visas to attend ICCF14.

The only one who I know was denied a visa was Igor Goryachev, he told me so directly. Do you know others who were denied visas, and if so, how did you receive the information?

Well, now you've put me on the spot! 8^) As you might well know in this case, my sources, however limited they might be, must remain confidential. 8^)

I'm probably way out of date. You were actually at ICCF14 so should have the latest. Last I heard (early Sept.) only one Russian (Karabut) got a visa, but many other Russians were denied or maybe just seriously delayed. Also one Indian physicist (Dr. Lakshmanan Arunachalam) was having trouble due to increased US requirements for background information, so the problem could be generic due to general increased security requirements and bureaucracy. I haven't seen names named as to those who could not attend. If you have talked to Dave Nagel, Mike Melich or Bob Smith about it (I haven't) you probably have the straight scoop.

You are correct about the impression and I apologize.

No need to apologize.

I did not mean to tease.

I did. I hoped maybe a few more beans would spill. Sorry, my humor is not very ... uh ... what to say ... decipherable as such. My writing style is pretty dull. I guess a smiley is not sufficient.

I meant to alert this very astute group of alternate information as soon as I knew it.

Appreciated.

I can avoid doing such in the future if that is preferrable.

Not at all! At least on my part. Glad you at least have an expected follow through date.

Jed Rothwell gave us all a big tease on a new CF development prior to ICCF14 but there was no follow up at all on that AFAIK. Maybe I missed it, or the connection.
