A U.S. natural gas boom? Better believe it, and it'll begin in just a
year. Look for rapid development of monumental-size natural gas
deposits trapped in mile-deep shale formations that zigzag beneath
N.Y., Pa., Ohio and W.Va.

Extracting gas from these formations in NY and PA will be an environmental nightmare. They have to use the water injection system -- hydraulic fractioning -- which will destroy the water table and pollute the ground water and land, destroy agriculture and natural flora, and pollute New York City's drinking water. Several large landowners and towns in NY have decided not to allow drilling. They are forgoing millions in present income in order to keep from turning their land into a polluted wasteland.

Natural gas extraction in Montana with these techniques has led to hideous environmental destruction.
