And in any case this argument is largely irrelevant for "equilibrium" old-growth forests, whose biomass is relatively stable. It becomes important for predicting the consequences of large-scale reforestation -- but unfortunately, there is no such thing, save in the dreams of some individuals. In the real world there is deforestation, not reforestation, and forests are consequently a net CO2 source, not a CO2 sink. The only real question is how big a carbon *source* they are. Arguments about the carbon sinking action of global forests make about as much sense as arguments about the carbon sinking action of global coal beds.
