Jed,

It could either have something to do with my communication - in my own gentle way <g> - with the SCIAM editor. Or maybe it was the ACS, or both, or some other unknown factor. Oransky and I never talked - but he seemed to have gotten the message.

Ivan,

I'd like to chat with you briefly about a SciAm article. Is there a number where I may reach you?

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Steve -- do you mean an item already on our site? If so, which one? Or are you thinking about pitching us something?

Trying to encourage you to engage with us as well as with our audience. Also still not sure what item it is, and what you want to talk about.

Ivan,

This is not a letter to the editor.

You make it very hard for someone to communicate with you like a human being. E-mail is about the lowest form of human communication, though it is certainly a good improvement over semaphore.

I'm not here to pitch you a story, to give you a hard time or to sell you on anything. I am here to help you - if you want it.

If a friend of yours came out of the bathroom with his zipper undone into a conference hall...or if a friend sneezed and unknown to him he had a bugger hanging from his nose, you would discreetly tell him so, I presume? Thus, the equivalent has occurred with your recent paragraph about "cold fusion" by Katherine Harmon.

If you want to know more - then you call me up. I'm not going to waste my time trying to have an email conversation with you or your grad school intern who does her "journalism research" on Wikipedia.

Steve
