The way that nuclear replaces oil - and it is possible in principle to make a gigantic cut in oil consumption - is with the hybrid automobile... which is recharged at night, preferably with underutilized power. Solar is not good for this, since the period of peak solar electricity output generally coincides with the peak in demand - not a good time to recharge the auto.
