I think his analysis is flawed. A car getting 30 mpg will exhaust 0.68 lb/mi of CO2 at 20.4 lb/gal of CO2 per gal of gas.
In 1999, a coal plant produced about 2 lb/kwh of CO2. A car traveling 60 mph using 16 kw will "exhaust" around 0.53 lb/mi of CO2. Inefficiencies excluded. And most cars don't get 30 mpg. And today's coal plants are cleaner. REDUCE CO2: Inhale twice, exhale once.
