*Vehicular homicide suspect flees hospital*
Police are searching for a woman who fled from a Gainesville hospital after
being charged with causing a deadly crash.

Dawn Satterfield, 46, of Gainesville, is wanted on nine warrants, including
driving under the influence of drugs, vehicular homicide and escape, Georgia
State Patrol spokesman Lt. Paul Cosper said Tuesday. . . .

She fled from the crash, but later returned to the scene . . . Paramedics
transported Satterfield to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in
Gainesville at 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

“We put a hold on her through hospital security,” Cosper said.

But when police returned to the hospital to check on Satterfield, she wasn’t
there, Cosper said.

“She walked away from the hospital,” Cosper said.

Hospital officials said Satterfield left the hospital at 4:50 a.m. - before
she even received medical treatment.

“She just left. She left against medical advice,” hospital spokeswoman Cathy
Bowers said.

Hospitals officials said the troopers did not complete the paperwork needed
to place a hold on the patient. . . .

*Man accused of stealing police car caught*

Police on Tuesday night arrested a man accused of stealing a Duluth police
squad car, and also have blamed him for taking an assault rifle.

Thomas James Stephens slipped from his handcuffs and broke out of the squad
car just over a week ago, police said.

He took the patrol car while the arresting officer wasn't looking, and drove
it to Memorial Drive in DeKalb County where he abandoned it, police said. .
. .

Along with theft charges for the squad car, Woodruff said Stephens also is
likely to be charged with possession of a firearm by a felony for taking an
assault rifle from the car.

"He stole an AR-15 out of the car," Woodruff said. "It was locked down by a
very secure lock, but he had plenty of time to beat on it. Any lock will
give in time."

The weapon was recovered the same day it was stolen, Woodruff said.

Stephens originally was arrested on Aug. 31 for driving while intoxicated,
police said.

*Officer charged with DUI resigns from force*

A Gwinnett County officer resigned Wednesday -- four days after being
arrested for DUI.

James Stoudenmire, 27, resigned in lieu of being terminated, Gwinnett Police
spokesman Cpl. David Schiralli said. . . .

Police said Stoudenmire was off-duty Saturday morning when he was involved
in a traffic crash on Pleasant Hill Road near Interstate 85 after leaving
Wild Bill's. . . .

Stoudenmire's fellow officers responded to the crash and determined he was
intoxicated, police said. Stoudenmire was arrested and taken to the Gwinnett
jail on charges of DUI and following too close. He has since been released
on a $1,557 bond . . .
