Furthermore being able to compensate for gravity completely implies
at least 1 g
of acceleration, but 1 g will get you to the Moon in less than 4 hours . . .
Don't you mean 2 g at first? 1 g close to earth is not quite enough
to counteract gravity. 1.01 will let you hover, I suppose, and
gradually ascend.
Once you get well away from earth, 1 g suffices.
