Maybe this was the ship without the 'off' switch?  Been a long time
since I read it.  Basic idea is a group of people find themselves stuck
in a Bussard ramjet powered starship which, for whatever reason, doesn't
get turned off ... it's one way to see "what really happens" when time
runs out.
