I agree with Harry that "Only a force can cause an acceleration if the law of 
inertia  is absolutely correct in all situations. However, I think it is 
dangerous to restrict the meaning of cause to force " 



Normally force is always transmitted to matter directly but Shawyer may be 
getting curved space time to interact with what we consider normal space time 
in a manner similar to a helium baloon being "displaced" by the external 
atmosphere as opposed to actually exerting a force in a specific vector. A kind 
of "pressure"  differential drive?
