One thing which I have not emphasized enough is that 64Ni is NOT a halo nucleus per se, and in fact all of the isotopes in that halo category are very short-lived and of no use in a real device.
The (potential) value of this isotope may be the fact that it is on the edge of stability, however, and of all transition metals apparently has the unique place of being the highest percent of excess neutrons, relative to the most stable isotope of that element.
