Good comments, Jed,

Of particular interest to me would be electronic formats that
facilitate the most accurate rendering & placement of not only raw
graphics (i.e. pictures & paintings, etc...) but also charts and
graphics. The former format, which is essentially rasterized, can be
problematical when attempting to resize the original image, especially
to a larger size. The latter however, should be turned into
standardized vectored coordinates. A vectored graphic would obviously
lend itself to being re-sized to fit any display format with
essentially no loss of visual quality. This should also be of some
concern to CF scientists and what-not.

You're probably right that I don't have to worry excessively about
what format to choose. Since most of the images I would produce are
likely to be reduced in size before they would fit into a LCD display
screen, the last thing I have to worry about is loss of resolution.
