Wow, Robin - you are really behind on your email ... but my reflexive response, also from memory is that the two explanations are not mutually incompatible. It does not have to be a "new form of gravity" at least not in some of the attempts at "unification" (of all the forces) where gravity is more than a long-range force, in that it flip-flops and increases exponentially at close range. ... not that I can explain it any better than that...
