I think the temperature inside the machine is a lot higher than 101°C. The steam is at 101°C because the pipe is short and unpressurized, like an open saucepan of boiling water. It does not make any difference how hot you make the saucepan, the steam will always be just a little above boiling.

I agree with the rest of this analysis. As I mentioned Pons also described the fact that the reaction is stable and tends to return to the same power level. I assume this is a function of the amount of active material in the sample.

Rossi believes the temperature at the core is 1500°C. As I mentioned here, Ed thinks that is impossible because it is above the melting point of nickel.
