Not wanting his lover to die a broken man, the engineer fabricates a fantastic fairy tale that appears to be a final success to all those years of research. The media beats a path to the door and the professor dies believing in their success. The engineer dies a few years later in prison when his experiment of lye and assorted metals explodes when he flushes it down the toilet in frustration. The End T
