Are you sure a robot could never be designed and programmed to earn an income? Inaddition to rights and contract law, the capacity to earn an income in a free market economy is supposedly what ensures consumers get what they want. Now, if the universe is really characterised by natural laws and these laws are complete or will be completed, then I see no reason why in principle the process of innovation and free enterprise might be someday be accomplished by swarms of competing/cooperating robot entrepeneurs designed by people who aren't interested in accumulating money.
