I was thinking along similar lines with this:

1) is this just a fake?
2) is it some group not understanding physics, who are mired in one form
of self-deception or the other?
3) is a specific form of LENR/LANR behind that?
(4) free energy – I am not ready for this one.
Currently I see the vortex-bunch as a group of people who keep an open
mind on phenomena, which cannot be ruled out as completely nonsensical.
I think it is also capable to weed out the frauds or deluded.
As has been mentioned by some before , it is about a careful balance
between (pathological) skepticism and weakminded wishful thinking.
Hard theoretical physics and astrophysics is going through difficult
times, and with it the bone-headed dogmatists.
What else is dark matter/energy than a hidden variable, which should
have been kicked out of the discourse of hard physics since Bohm in the
QM-domain?
I think this is quite reasonable, given the current state of affairs,
but on the other hand, nuclear physics should care more about 'possibly real'
phenomena, and not so much engage in multiverses and the tunneling through
black holes and such, which is deemed perfectly 'reasonable', according to the
current canon.
