I'll certainly grant the obvious evidence that temperatures achieved within a typical dishwasher will easily split most germ particles from the nuclear cores of dishes and utensils. But which procedure is more energy efficient - using a dishwasher to split off the unwanted particles, or washing them away by hand? Which method uses fewer natural resources too? Just curious.
