In retrospect it is pretty clear that the main issues in that debate were not scientific but about something else altogether. I think anyone who has fought steps to address global warming and who can feel embarrassment (not everyone can) will indeed feel embarrassed for having put a stake in the ground on such an indefensible position. Others, who cannot feel embarrassment, will probably just put the episode behind them and move on to the next front in the culture wars. Eric
