I recognized it from an episode of Foyle's War.  Needless to say, the
British population did not care much for the regulation.

This was issued in WWII. It remained in effect through the war, though gradually the government released those interned under it. Around the end of the war, the last person in custody was released and the Regulation was cancelled.

The "Muslim" version was trolling.

There is a parallel with U.S. treatment of Japanese citizens, though the two situations were not the same. While it was shameful, I will also say that internment was a heck of a lot better than genocide. So maybe the U.S. and Britain get D's or C's rather than an F.
