I think there are cracks at different orders of magnitude in these systems. I would imagine that stress-induced cracks would be macroscopic and could lead to rapid outgassing. I get the impression that the cracks Storms refers to are on the nano scale -- someone please correct me if I am mistaken on this detail. Eric
