I do not think anyone is talking about improved photosynthetic efficiency.
Indoor farms produce far more food per square meter of land than outdoor
farms for various reasons:

The crops are stacked up vertically. The crops are three dimensional.

Water run-off losses are eliminated, along with fertilizer run-off.

Vermin are locked out, and far less insecticide is needed.

Overall quality control and uniformity is improved so there is less wastage.

Growing conditions are always optimum.

These are greenhouses, so the growing season lasts all year.

In the Japanese Cosmoplant factory described in my book, they used
artificial lighting, so the crops grew 24 hours a day.
