Yes, of course wind turbines are ugly. Yes, they do kill some birds. But you cannot evaluate them in a vacuum, ignoring the qualities of coal, nuclear and other alternatives. You cannot pretend that a viable alternative is to have no electricity at all. As for those who say "anything would be better" I am reminded of what Lincoln said when critics told him he should replace Gen. McClellan: "When a critic in Congress demanded McClellan’s firing, Lincoln asked who should replace the general. 'Why, anybody,' the senator replied. '*Anybody*will do for you,' Lincoln said, 'but not for me. I must have *somebody*.'" No technology is perfect. No solution is permanent. Wind turbines are bound to become obsolete someday. I hope they are made obsolete very soon, by cold fusion. - Jed
