I find it annoying when people allow the perfect to be enemy of the good.

Yes, of course wind turbines are ugly. Yes, they do kill some birds. But
you cannot evaluate them in a vacuum, ignoring the qualities of coal,
nuclear and other alternatives. You cannot pretend that a viable
alternative is to have no electricity at all.

As for those who say "anything would be better" I am reminded of what
Lincoln said when critics told him he should replace Gen. McClellan:

"When a critic in Congress demanded McClellan’s firing, Lincoln asked who
should replace the general. 'Why, anybody,' the senator replied.
'*Anybody*will do for you,' Lincoln said, 'but not for me. I must have
*somebody*.'"

No technology is perfect. No solution is permanent. Wind turbines are bound
to become obsolete someday. I hope they are made obsolete very soon, by
cold fusion.
