Since either potassium hydroxide or sodium hydroxide react with aluminum to produce hydrogen, I wonder if NiAl wire in electrolysis with KOH or NaOH might prove interesting. Any thoughts?
Perhaps even simpler would be adding this wire to a solution of KOH or NaOH without electrolysis. I don't know if the hydrogen produced would load into the lattice. Best regards, Jack
