The ice cracks, water and mud flows in, freezes, and the wall reseals.
That's the beauty of it. There is unlimited supply of water and mud right
next to the wall.

The big problem would be a failure of the cooling coils. This was shown in
the video. As I said, the ground would dry, the water table would fall, and
the contaminated water from reactor buildings would escape. As long as the
water table is high it is largely held in.

Of course this will not stop every liter of contaminated water from leaking
out.
