That is an interesting idea Jones. I was thinking of another possibility that we might want to consider.
Much of my career has been associated with radios and consequently oscillators. I have designed numerous types of these including VCO's and crystal versions so I have a tendency to see everything as an oscillator with positive feedback. It is not difficult to achieve the blocking condition by accident which must be eliminated within the final design. I see parallels in the behavior of solar cycles. Of course the above description of solar behavior is hypothetical.
