This may be true.  But the public perception of longtime skeptics' lack of
engagement is probably ambiguous.  The critics appear either to have been
shown false when it comes to evidence and to have given up in defeat or to
be stubbornly holding out; or, alternatively, to have been vindicated in
their skepticism and to have given up on people who can't be reasoned with
and who have persisted in their delusional beliefs for years.  Different
people no doubt come to different conclusions in this regard.
