Dear Alain, A lot of things have happened in the first heroic months after the F&P event see please my paper: http://egooutpeters.blogspot.ro/2011/03/my-cold-fusion-history-i.html
Initially enthusiasm was dominant, then many teams failed to reproduce thr effect- excess heat and neutrons- neutrons in the F&P paper was a costy error.converting the Hot Fusion community in enemies- both experiments and theoretical dogma has contributed to this enmity. However the general experimental situation was bad and the explanation: smart people obtain positive results, those who obtain negative (null) results are not smart and make errors has not contributed to the popularity of CF. It was not recognized that CF systems have some inbonr troubles. I well remember discussions with Douglas Morrison- a CF friend initially converted in enemy and Heinz Gerrischer - friendly but far from being optimist re the future. The memeplexes nominated by you, could have played a background role But there were no many doomers illo tempore. (I belong probably to the "progress cornucopian technology start-trek optimism humanis" memeplex" see what I wrote as Yves Henry Prum. It is painfully true that CF/LENR is too complex a matter to be let to physicists alone; or even to scientists alone because only engineering, deep, well thought changes in the reactants can solve the reliability and development problems. I think taht using forced analogies and false associations we cannot help LENR because it is a specific case (as all other) it differs from the early history of aviation, or of transistors, it has nothing to learn from homoepathic medicine or from many other fields that had been or are in trouble. LENR has to solve its problems by new ideas.
