Perhaps these are the sources. If you look at the literature (I don't remember where, but I think it's a paper o presentation from Kim), it's pointed out that 24MeV particles from within old experiments with Pd look like conic craters with 4um in diameter and similar depth, if my memory is correct. Compare with the nickel powder. If such explosion occurs, a grain of powder will explode.
There will be flying hot debris, which will glue to other to other grains. If there are a few thousands of explosion per grain/s.
