We've talked about that before, back when Compiz was a new thing. We
could actually do better, a plugin *alternative* to Cube, that allows you
to create "workspaces" as free-floating billboards in virtual space.
There are two big problems, however:
1: Compiz is "pure opengl"; might be hard to integrate that with the
CrystalSpace-based Interreality.
2: Just like with Cube, the workspaces would only become usable (in terms
of accepting input) when you "stick them to your screen" (zoom and
position so that it corresponds exactly to the screen). Of course we
could facilitate that, probably with some kind of snapping. This is
because at the moment X doesn't do the kind of input redirection that
would be necessary to allow them to work in any other mode. (Beryl has a
really neat hack to allow input when you're zoomed *in*, but that
wouldn't solve our problem here).
Also, I don't know about the "instant" in the title... this is something
that would take weeks to develop, months to make bug-free :-)
