As Victor already pointed out VOTCA works on any LINUX as long as the dependency are met. Generally speaking all unix-like operating system are supported, which also includes IBM's AIX and Mac OSX. Windows is untested and hence not supported, but you can for example install Linux inside Virtual Box. If you thing about install a Linux especially to use VOTCA, I would recommend Fedora or OpenSuse as both of them deliver binary packages, which saves you the hassle of building VOTCA by hand.
