i'm now compiling the new kernel 2.4.2.

the only new driver in this release is ESS Maestro3/Allegro driver.

there are a couple of patches (one patch should increase the speed of your
ethernet connection by eliminating copying memory from user to kernel space.
another patch allows certain ethernet cards to calculate the IP checksum, so
the kernel doesn't have to do that any longer).

no major bug fixes.

btw, SGI's xfs has reached ver .9.   prepare for linux's 2nd journal system
to be supported by the kernel shortly.
