i'm trying to get navalle (192.168.0.3) to use satan's (192.168.0.2) printer.
here's what i've done:

1. satan:/etc/hosts.lpd

        192.168.0.3

2. navalle:/etc/printcap

        lp|Remote printer entry:\
                                :sd=/var/spool/lpd/remote:\ # Local spool directory
                                :mx#0:\ # Max file size
(0==unlimited)
                                :sh: # Surpress header page
:rm=satan:\ # System that has the
physical printer
:rp=lp0:\ # Remote printer name on
satan

3. satan:/etc/printcap

        lp|Generic dot-matrix printer entry:\
                          :lp=/dev/lp0:\
                          :sd=/var/spool/lpd/lp:\
                          :if=/var/spool/lpd/myfilter:\
                          :af=/var/log/lp-acct:\
                          :lf=/var/log/lp-errs:\
                          :pl#66:\
                          :pw#80:\
                          :pc#150:\
                          :mx#0:\
                          :sh:

4. both machines can ping, scp, ssh, etc each other.

5. using tcpdump:

i determined that navalle isn't even trying to send packets to satan
for printing. whatever's going wrong, it's on navalle's side.

6. logs:

the reason why i'm posting this is that there's nothing in the logs for
me to act on. no error messages on either machine. i can't even begin
   to guess what's going wrong.

7. on navalle, lpc status indicates:

        queuing is enabled
        printing is enabled
        no entries
        lp is ready and printing

everything looks great. i'm stumped. any advice?
