I have & had tried your suggestion. My cdrom is off / , the root directory as /cdrom. I have tried /cdrom /cdrom/ cdrom , and selected the cdrom from the dropdown list that xmms generates. Inside XMMS there is a button on the panel that says cdrom. None have any effect at lighting the little blinker light on the CDROM, or letting the music play.
Thanks for help.

One thing to check is to make sure you have the xmms-cdread package installed. Now, as far as I know, you shouldn't be able to mount an audio cdrom, but if you are able to (perhaps some cool package is installed or a kernel patch?), unmount the device. Go into XMMS, access the menu, select "Play Location" and put in /dev/cdrom (or the drive name of your cdrom device, e.g. /dev/hdc).On Tue, 17 Dec 2002, Dick Ely wrote: > Hi people: > > I have the latest Debian release installed and can get xmms to play mp3 > files.
