I agree with "select Play Location", but I have never had any luck using /dev/cdrom. It is probably something I am doing wrong - but perhaps you are doing like wise. Anyway, in "Play Location" I use /mnt/cdrom and it works perfectly. If it isn't in the list - type it in - it will be there the next time.

I have & had tried your suggestion. My cdrom is off / , the root directory as /cdrom. I have tried /cdrom /cdrom/ cdrom , and selected the cdrom from the dropdown list that xmms generates. Inside XMMS there is a button on the panel that says cdrom. None have any effect at lighting the little blinker light on the CDROM, or letting the music play.
