Did the mouse become unresponsive right after you ran the 
vmware_configure.pl or after you ran vmware (after running the configure 
script)?

vmware grabs your mouse when it is running a virtual machine--in order to 
release it, you need to press <CTRL><ALT> and release--that should free up 
the mouse, if that was the problem.
