The machines gets a fixed IP from my monowall firewall, set to 192.168.1.12; also tried it with a random dhcp ip from monowall. sshd_config does have its listen port on 22. When I was pinging the ALIX it was the only other machine on in my very small network, and I could see the ethernet port lights blink in response to the pings. My desktop does listen to a different SSH port.
I did do the initial install for serial login instead of console login. Would that make a difference? I'm stumped...
