in order to change the rate algorithm on madwifi at boot time you
need to change /etc/modprobe.d/madwifi with this line:
options ath_pci autocreate=none ratectl=minstrel
( the option on madwifi-ng to change the algorithm is ratectl
instead of rate )

As madwifi doesn't work properly in ad-hoc mode, we are trying to
use the minstrel rate algorithm to improve performance in atheros
based devices. We've obtained good results with nanostation devices
and we would like to try with voyage (WRAPS and ALIX). However, we
don't know how to activate the minstrel rate algorithm on boot by
default instead of the sample. Anyone could give advice on this?
We've tried "modprobe ath_pci rate=minstrel" but this not seems to
work.
