Thanks, I've seen your post and it did not help directly, but it certainly shows where the problem lies. I found out that an usb drive will not mount if you put it in mountall.sh simply because it is not ready at that time. My problem is that I have other services which need the usb drive to be mounted. If they do not find it, they do not start at all, or they start but log to /var/log/ instead of the external drive I configured. That also has as a consequence that the cf drive does not mount ro. But I'll try again: it's certainly a matter of reordering the services in the rcX.d folders - they don't seem to be in an optimized loading order. As a last chance, I found that putting the script (or link) into rc.local will work - that's the last one executed before login.
