I have no idea with alix1d and ide but I use an alix3d2 with and 2.5''
hd connected to one usb connector
with an usb to ide coneverter while I get the power for the hd from the
second usb connector.
This setup is working nearly 1 year on an tower in 30m in the air ...
Working really nice ... Nagios, cacti and central rsyslogd is logging to
the disk ...
My 2 cents...
