There is a slight problem with that, though.

Decoded images do not only eat memory (the raw bitmap data
*could* be saved to disk easily), but pens too, and the
"pen allocation" at a given moment depends on what happened
before (what kind of images were viewed etc.). 

Rendering the actual image is also dependant from which pens
are free, so reading a cached *decoded* image may not
produce the same results.

Hm, it's a nice option for HiColor/TrueColor though. Hm. :)
