I'm not sure about the state of the complete boost library and the vc8

I did take a crack at one point in compiling Boost for VC8 but gave up after some initial difficulty and just installed their prepared binaries. Boost is a moving target and I think the "release" copy of the source code wasn't quite ready for VC8 with the last snapshot. If you follow the mailing lists you'll see that there's a lot of people working with VC8, and getting it compiled from source is probably best done by grabbing whatever's in their version control system, so you can get the latest build support. Then ask for help on the mailing lists.

I'm subscribing to boost-build, boost(-dev), and boost-users, but not actively paying attention to them. They're pretty busy lists. I filter all my mailing list traffic into separate folders at the mail server so I don't have to clutter my inbox with it.
