We had discussed doing this. (See the list archives.) The issue is in
ssphys, the program that converts the binary VSS files to XML. It's
hard-coded to claim the encoding of the files. You can edit the line
that installs the encoding in the XML file to your desired encoding. A
patch to make this a command line parameter would be welcome.
Kenneth, I must admit that I am very inexperienced with issues regarding
code pages and converting among encodings... according to your
description, is ticket 26

sounds like the XML parser will "do the right thing" as long as the
correct encoding is written to the XML files?
