this is indeed strange. The code to convert not allowed characters is in place since a long time. Which revision of vss2svn are you running? Can you please try the latest nighly build.

    vss using tortoisSVN, it complained that a folder name in labels
    is invalid (which is 20060708: file review!), and the check out
    will failed. Who know how to resolve this?
